Since the third world war, the agencies that launched and maintained our satellites no longer exist. Even an automatically re-adjusting satellite would have spent all it's rocket fuel long ago.
Their orbits became erratic; their lives an analogy of human existence... One by one they either drifted peacefully outwards into space, or their pulsating radioactive hulks tore into the earths atmosphere to be dessimated into billions of droplets of molten aluminium, silicon, lead, and uranium that waft now over the earth.
